This Season's Fashion Faux Pas and Must Haves

As summer has faded and fall has arrived, the world of fashion has similarly changed and, as such, it is important to make sure that our wardrobes keep up to date. Whilst fads and trends come and go, some are likely to have a long shelf life and others, like Psy’s Gangnam Style dance, are likely to age and become dated rather quickly. It is, therefore, of utmost importance to stay on top of the fashion must haves for this season as well as the fashion faux pas.

Bold Handbags

Running parallel to the latest craze for satchel-style over the shoulder bags, as popularised by the Cambridge Satchel company, has been a resurgence in the traditional handbag but done with a contemporary twist. Designers like Michael Kors and Kara Ross have begun to see handbags not simply as a complimentary item of an ensemble but rather a bold, expressionistic platform in and of itself. As such bright, bold handbags have begun to become omnipresent and are set to get more and more popular into the year 2013; a perfect way to make a statement with clothing.

Owls

Emblematic of the rise in popularity of geek chic owl designs, previously worn only by the likes of Glee’s Rachel Berry, have begun to pop up all over the high street and cat walks. Designers’ new favourite bird of prey is particularly popular in woollen jumper designs and represents a great way of adding a touch of whimsy to an outfit.

Knee High Boots

Many young women would, up until recent months, run a mile when confronted with a pair of knee high boots for fear of associations with the film Pretty Woman and all that that entails. Recently, however, the attitudes towards the boots has begun to shift somewhat as has been evidenced by the likes of Kim Kardashian appearing to sport one of two pairs she owns on a continual basis these days.

Nail Art

No longer just the domain of fashion bloggers, nail art has seen an increase in popularity to the point that complicated patterns are now a regular site on the high street. Rather than just filling in every individual nail the same colour, fashion conscious young ladies have begun to paint their nails in a variety of patterns from polka dots through to stripes and way beyond.

Aviator Sunglasses

After a brief spell of popularity in the 1980s, due in part to their iconographic use in Top Gun, the style of glasses vanished in time until a brief renaissance earlier this year. When the ironic humour wore off, and it did pretty quickly, aviator shades were once again rendered redundant for the fashion conscious.

Wedges

Initially celebrated for their comfort, something they had in abundance in comparison to their high heeled cousins, the footwear became over-exposed over the summer season and many grew bored of their heaviness and cumbersome nature. They became even more redundant when designers including more practical heels in their new ranges including short block heels.
