Fall's Hottest Footwear Trends

Anyone who has been keeping an eye on fashion developments throughout the year knows that footwear trends change from season to season and this year has been no different. The first new season of the year, Spring, saw the Kate Middleton inspired nude court heel reign supreme with many burgeoning fashionistas throughout the land sporting a pair of LK Bennetts or high street replicas of the famous design. The summer saw high heels temporarily replaced by wedges as the footwear of choice for many fashion conscious young women with cork varieties of the design being the most popular. With fall upon us, which trends are we going to look back on and always remember as synonymous with the season?

Androgyny

Whilst androgynous footwear has been a popular trend in stylish countries such as South Korea for a couple of seasons now, the trend has just begun to spread Westwards. Brogues and Oxfords, formerly the domain of the sophisticated gentleman, have begun to make a splash in the world of women’s fashion and have become amongst the most popular shoe silhouettes for women.

Block Heels

Whilst stiletto and cigarette heels, and variants on the vertiginously high and thin heel, will always to some degree be in fashion, this season has seen the rise in prominence of a chunkier alternative. Thick, block heels, seemingly a compromise somewhere between wedges and traditional high heels, have become more popular as of late and their appeal stems from the fact that whilst, like stiletto heels, they give the wearer the illusion of longer, slimmer legs, they also provide more comfort as the distribution of weight is spread much more equally. As such, block heels are a rarity in the fashion world – a compromise between style and comfort.

Thigh-High Boots

 

Since Julia Roberts wore a pair of thigh high boots in Pretty Woman, the trend has been to stay away from such a pair of style due to it being synonymous with the film. This season, however, they have experienced something of a resurgence and are expected to be worn well into the winter months too. The new variation on the trend involves a stacked heel which, like the block heels mentioned above, are another rare example of designers trying to make their footwear more practical for their customers to use. The one problem that remains with thigh high boots, however, is that they are hard to team with many different outfits and usually require long, lean legs to be worn successfully. So, whilst they may not be as omnipresent with the other trends listed here, they will still be incredibly successful, particularly in the younger, hipster circles.

Studded Shoes

 

Already achieving something of an iconic status for the Fall season are studded shoes which can now be found in just about every high street up and down the land. Originally the concept of adding spikes, studs and similar adornments to footwear came from high end designers, such as Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin, looking to add some pizzazz to their heels. Now, however, the craze has spread and spikes and studs are added not just to heels but to loafers, wedges and even sneakers! It’s unlikely this trend will be going anywhere soon!
